Not powerful enough to drive 2.5 inch siding nails

Surprisingly, this tool doesn''t have enough power to drive siding nails. I''m using Bostitch 2 1/2" ring shank siding nails at 110 PSI with the depth set as deep as it goes and yet well over half the nails are a half inch (or more) proud. I''m trying to attach 7/16ths OSB to kiln dried Douglas Fir, so the wood is plenty receptive to nails. Even when I lean on the gun to prevent any recoil, most of the nails need to be finished up with a hammer.
(Added one star after quite a bit of use)

** Update after quite a lot of use: I''ve just gone through 500 1 3/4 inch ring shank nails attaching Hardie Plank siding to the same structure: so 5/16 Hardie Plank, 1/2 OSB, KD Doug Fir studs - and it worked just fine. I think as long as you keep the nails 2 inches or shorter, this gun works fine. They just stretched a bit when they claimed it could drive 2 1/2 inch siding nails...

The gun doesn''t seem to be defective in any way, the nails advance appropriately and the trigger (sequential) works very well. There just isn''t enough power behind the gun to push a full sized nail into wood.

I had a medium sized area of water damage on the exterior of my house that needed repair. I have cedar shingle siding. I''ve replaced a few shingles here and there, but only nailed by hand. Due to the size of this project and other future projects (fence rebuild, shed), I wanted to invest in a siding nailer. Being a homeowner/DIY''er, I didn''t want to spend a small fortune on a tool that won''t see too much action.

With most things, not all things, I feel that you get what you pay for. At first, I tried looking for a used siding nailer, but I learned they''re hard to come by. So "new" was the only choice at the time. I compared a few different brands and narrowed it down to the Freeman PCN65 Coil Siding Fencing Nailer and the Bostitch. It seemed that the Freeman was on the bottom end, and the Bostitch was in the middle. I obviously went with the Bostitch. This was mainly due to the hit and miss reviews on the Freeman''s reliability and quality. Not just on Amazon, but other retailers too. Although the price of the Bostitch is a little bit more than the Freeman (when I purchased), I saw it more as an investment. Plus with most tools, if you take care of them, they will last many, many years. Or if you decided to sell, you could potentially get more return on it.

The nailer feels solid, well built, and balanced. It comes with a nice plastic molded case for storage, or transporting. I hung about 50+ shingles with it and had no issues. No jamming. No misfiring. Depth adjustment was easy, and once set, no issues marring or splitting shingles. Loading is easy, I used these Grip Rite Prime Guard Max MAXC62872 15 Degree Wire Coil 1-1/2-Inch by .09-Inch Ring Shank, Stainless Steel Siding Nails 1,200 Per box nails. The hook is super convenient, especially when up on a ladder! It also has two triggers depending on how you want to fire nails. Contact, for rapid bump fire (think like roofers hanging shingles) or sequential fire, for precise placement.

Overall happy with the purchase, made the last project move faster. Look forward to more! Only downside is, you''ll also have to order a quick connect plug for air, which is a little disappointing, oh well. It would also be nice if they included oil too.

I ordered this on a Friday evening, and it was delivered on Monday! I''ve had a few other nail guns, but this is my first Bostitch. It was easy to load, and easy to adjust the force to drive 2" galvanized nails into 1/2" OSB sheathing, easily and consistently setting every nail to the perfect depth. It comes with two triggers, a black "bump fire" trigger installed on the gun, and a gray sequential fire trigger that you can easily replace the bump fire one with if you prefer. The default black trigger works just fine for me, because you can still place the gun exactly where you want it, and then fire one time when accuracy is important. I''ve read that the bump fire trigger can fire two nails in the same place if you don''t allow it to recoil slightly, but I haven''t had that problem, so I''ll probably stick with the black trigger. That way I can still bump-fire it when speed is more important than accurate placement. I would confidently recommend this gun for anyone who needs a medium-sized framing nailer capable of using up to 2-1/2" coiled nails. It''s best applications are installing sheathing, fences, and siding, including fiber cement products like Hardie Board.

I needed to build a fence and using a nail gun made very short work of the project. This nail gun worked well, the way it ships some people mentioned that you can have double or even triple shots, I did experience this. It was something that isnt a problem if you make sure to shoot with a firm grip. I think there is a way to change the gun to single shot mode if it continues to cause problems. I used Bostitch 2" x 0.090 galvanized nails and had no jams. Super easy to load the coil of nails too. This gun does not come with any nails or the nipple air fitting. make sure to get both.

I bought this nailer in October of 2016. I chose this one because I own 6 other Bostitch nailers and have been extremely happy with those. This N66C tends to have a mind of its when it comes to depth control of driving the nail. My contractor replaced the siding on wood shop and used my nailer because his broke and no matter how the nailer was adjusted the nailer would always leave about 1/4 inch of the nail exposed that had be hammered in. This summer I replaced some siding on my shed and this time no matter how the nailer was adjusted it either drove the nail in too deep or not deep enough.

I really like this nailgun! I''m hanging Hardie siding and its perfect for the job. I bought the 2" nails with it and they are working great. No miss firing yet! After watching many YouTube videos and HGTV, I felt like Bostwich was the perfect tool for the job. The nails heads are very consistent with driving as long as you hit a stud. We are resididing a house that was built in 1846! The studs are all over the place but the wood is very tight grain heartpine. I''m very pleased with this product simply because it is so light weight to hold and hang on your belt. I would definitely recommend this product for use on hanging siding!!!

residing a section of the house with cedar shingles and did not want to nail them. I had considered stapling them with medium crown staples, but stainless was hard to find. Was happy to find that Bostitch now makes a siding nailer than shoots stainless 1-3/4" ring nails similar to what I have used a hammer with in the past. The unit is light easy to load and works great right out of the gate. Be sure to read the loading instructions as you need to adjust the floor of the nail hopper to the size of the nail you are using. I am just starting and have shot about 100 nails so far with no problems. The swivel air line connection gives the gun a lot more freedom of movement in tight spots, worth the extra money.

I''m a carpenter, I own half a dozen air nailers, and this is the one I like the least of the bunch. First off, it jams a lot. I''m using 2-1/2" Bostitch siding nails designed for this nailer, and the hole on the nailer that the nails have to go though isn''t big enough to let all of the nail heads pass through. The odd one gets its head stuck. And getting it unstuck is not only a pain in the ass but it feels like it''s doing damage to the nailer, which brings me to my second issue. Of all my nailers, this one feels the most flimsy. I buy good quality tools and I expect them to last. This one doesn''t feel like it''s going to last. My final issue is that it doesn''t really bury the nail, even on it''s deepest setting, and it''s inconsistent. I have to keep a hammer close at hand to finish burying the odd nail. Likely related to the first issue.
